Australia vs England Test Series

Australia will host England in a three-match test series for the newly named Ella-Mobbs Cup (formerly the Cooks Cup).

Test Match 1: Saturday 2nd July 2022 @ 7:55pm AEST – Optus Stadium, Perth

Test Match 2: Saturday 9th July 2022 @ 7:55pm AEST – Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane

Test Match 3: Saturday 16th July 2022 @ 7:55pm AEST – Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney

History between Australia and England

Prior to this test series being played, Australia and England have faced each other 52 times in all competitions since 1909, with England leading the battle 26-25 with one draw. But when it comes to Australian shores, Australia leads the charge winning 14 of their 20 encounters.

The recent years have been very poor for the Australians, who have lost their last eight encounters against England, with their last victory coming in the 2015 Rugby World Cup Pool stage. Since 2010, Australia has won just three matches against England in the 15 matches they have played, just three in 12 years!

November last year was the last time these two teams faced off, which was in the 2021 Autumn International, where England saluted 17-point victors in front of a boisterous Twickenham crowd.

Australia vs England – Test Match 3 Preview

Australia vs England

Saturday 16th July 2022 @ 7:55pm AEST – Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney

Much like the other test match, this game is the decider in what has been a mixed series for both teams, with Australia’s headlined by injuries. England squared up the series with a tough win at Suncorp Stadium and decided their own fate by maintaining their discipline better than the Wallabies. Both teams were ordinary in all aspects of the game from set plays to the breakdown, from errors to discipline, and it was just a tough, tough game. England capitalised on Australia’s ill-discipline, nailing six penalty goals, which is 18 of the 25 points scored.

I am expecting another fiery affair as Australia look to fill the spots from both poor form and injuries. Reece Hodge comes into fullback following the concussion of Jordan Pataia, Harry Wilson enters into the second row, Tate McDermott replaces Jake Gordon on the bench, and Vunivalu looks like he will make his debut from the bench meanwhile the squad welcomes back Alan Alaalatoa, and Len Ikitau after missing the second test. A glaring omission is James O’Connor who has been dropped.

Another test that could go either way and if I take my Wallaby cap off, I still think they have been better in both tests but last week their discipline let them down. This third test, much like the first two, is genuine coin flips due to officiating and the lack of execution in the attack.

Australia with the home field advantage and some fresh blood should be enough to hold off an English onslaught and if they can remain disciplined, they should be able to salute by at least one try.
