Geelong Cats v GWS Giants
Friday 3/9/21
There’s been plenty of discussion about how the Cats fare in various stages of the finals’ series after last week’s qualifying demolition at the hands of Port. Virtually nothing went right for the Cats, but it wasn’t a huge surprise to some given they have an appalling record in the first week of finals. But it’s a different story when it comes semi-final time, with the Cats winning five of their last six matches at this stage of the finals. I’m sure it’s a big reason they go in as red-hot favourites against a Giants outfit without Toby Greene. While there’s been plenty of commentary about Greene’s absence, the Giants have won three of five when he’s been out of the side in 2021. But it’s not only Greene out for the Giants, with Tom Green and Sam Reid also on the sidelines. As for the Cats, Zach Tuohy and Esava Ratugolea are key inclusions. The Giants are proven to show extreme resolve in finals and there’s a few reasons to suggest they can cause an upset. Firstly, the Cats were so bad last week that it takes some serious trust to believe they can turn that around in the space of the week. Secondly, the Giants have a tremendous recent record over the Cats, winning the past three.
Suggested bet: 2u Giants win at $3.20
Brisbane Lions v Western Bulldogs
Saturday 4/9/21
After spluttering to the finals, the Bulldogs found their mojo in last week’s dominant display to beat the Bombers. Is it a sign they are back to their very best and deserved of a spot in the premiership conversation? It’s hard to say, but it surely would’ve given them a much-needed confidence boost. They now come north to face the Lions who have won eight of their past nine at their home of the Gabba. Brisbane has also won its past three clashes against the Dogs (two of which were at the Gabba). But this time they’ll have to come off a loss to the Demons where they never really looked a winning chance. They’ll also have do it without important tall Daniel McStay. I think the loss of McStay puts serious pressure on the Lions who would’ve already been stretched to match the Dogs’ taller key position players.
Suggested bet: 1.5u Bulldogs win at $2.36
