Launceston races are held at Ladbrokes Racing Centre Mowbray, which is located just 3 kilometres from the city centre. Launceston races will be the home of night racing in Tasmania from 2010.
There are no group 1 races at the Launceston racetrack but the racecourse does play host to Group racing during the Tasmanian Summer Carnival in January. The biggest Tasmanian races at Launceston are the Launceston Cup and the Vamos Stakes.
The Tasmanian Summer Carnival offers $3million in prize money and this is sure to see many more eastern state visitors head to the Tasmanian racecourses in January.
