Smile And Wave (Mornington Race 4 No. 9)
Lots to learn in this race but loved a recent trial from Smile And Wave. Concede the time wasn’t flash but it cruised to the line while all other horses were under hard riding. Smile And Wave was well in the market on debut and didn’t have the best of luck. With the solid draw it can find a prominent spot and if it brings its trial effort it can give this race a shake at a lovely price.

Brilliant Melody (Mornington Race 5 No. 9)
Open race but taking a leaning to Brilliant Melody. It was only fair last run but gets a nice drop in grade here. The maiden win was outstanding as it sat 3 wide and toughed it out. Its also worth noting the horse it beat that day, Bon’s Your Back, has since won well in NZ so the form stacks up. Ben Allen is finding his groove again and with a pinch of luck from the wide barrier this race is well within reach.

Best Lay
Movader (Mornington Race 7 No. 8)
Movader broke maiden status last run and now has to deal with the rise in grade. I have my doubts over the quality of opposition it was versing and it will need plenty to go right from the barrier. The $3.60 seems a thin price as a few of these runners are proven in this grade.
