Our Devonport Horse Racing Tips for the weekend.

Best Bet

Michbar (Devonport Race 1 No. 2)

Think we can get away to a good start in the first, thanks to Adam Trinder.

I have MICHBAR clearly on top here. Has had some time off, but has trialled well heading into this. Sense of timing about this horse, waiting until the last meeting on the dirt to get some easy prizemoney. I think he’ll land just outside BANDINELLI in the run, and prove best late – really nice horse, and handles the dirt well. Rated Price – $2.40

Back MICHBAR for 1.5 units at $2.60+

How to pick a winner

Best Each Way

King Island (Devonport Race 3 No. 12):

On a day where I’ll be shooting pretty straight, I thought KING ISLAND is worth a spec at a big price. Didn’t mind the trial where he powered away late, albeit in moderate time. Think he can find the top and run a race. Rated Price – $8.00

Back KING ISLAND for 0.25 units WIN and PLACE at $10.00/3.00+

Best Lay

Tennessee Beach (Devonport Race 3 No. 8):

Given the current prices I’d be inclined to lay TENNESSEE BEACH. If you looked up non-winner in the dictionary, this mare would be there. She’s always on speed and looking good at the 100m, so I can understand why she would be favourite. However, I think she’ll be puncturing late, particularly at 1350m. Rated Price – $8.00

Lay TENNESSEE BEACH for 1 unit WIN and PLACE at < $4.00/1.80

R2 1009m Maiden

Messy race this one and not a stack of meat on the bone in the prices.

WARICA is the one to beat. Has trialled well coming in, and will find the front and take some running down. Too short to back, but can’t lay it.

R3 1350m Maiden

Pretty weak maiden this one, and there’s a few horses that could win without surprising.

No Thanks.

R5 1150m Class 1

Thought this was a two horse race, and you could bet accordingly.

I think POWER MAGNUM is justified favourite and should be winning here. There’s not a huge amount of meat on the bone price wise, but I just don’t think the rest can beat him. He returned super off a long lay off, and really put the field to the sword – I think he can win again here. Rated Price – $2.40

FIESTY LION was the other runner I’m inclined to have on side. I think he’s going really well without winning, and can run well again here. He looks a likely challenger for the lead, and with the claim of T Johnstone is well in at 56.5kg in this field. Rated Price – $4.60

Back FIESTY LION for 1 unit WIN at $5.00+

Back POWER MAGNUM for 1 unit WIN at $2.50+

R6 1350m Class 1

Tough race and not overly keen to be betting up in this one.

I landed on NEEDS TO BELONG as the horse to be with. He’s been going really nicely and has run home super off slow tempos of late. There looks a fair bit of speed on paper here with OLYMPIC HONOUR, GG MISS QUITA, PROPHET EYES, BAHEERA and CYCLONE LOUIE all capable of pressing forward for the lead. I think Siggy will be smoking the pipe out the back and if the field breaks up will be strongest late. Happy to back NEEDS TO BELONG for a small result. Rated Price – $3.50

Back NEEDS TO BELONG for 1 unit WIN at $3.80+

R7 1350m BM68

Nice little race this.

I’m going back to the well AGAIN here. MULTISANTI will carry my money for the third time in as many starts. Blinkers look to have really made this horse, and although going a touch keen in the run last two runs (when winning), I think he can control the race here in the small field and really give them something to catch with the 56.5kg. If Baker rides this horse positively I think he’ll be waving good bye to them at the 300m and hoping his partner Siggy Carr on ALPINE BLAST doesn’t catch him late. Rated Price – $3.20.

Back MULTISANTI for 1 unit WIN at $3.60+

R9 1650m BM60

Not the most pleasant race to finish, but at current prices I think it’s worth backing a few runners to beat current favourites DUSTY JOE and BARJEEL.

I’m pretty happy to have a throw at the stumps with SECRETLY AWESOME. This horse is having its first start in TAS, running 14 days ago for Gavin Bedggood. I’m hoping the gelding has arrived sound, I think he’s the one to beat. He should find the top with Siggy in the saddle, and from there dictate the race. He’s handled synthetic in VIC before, so just hoping he can set a good tempo and hold on late! Rated Price – $4.40

Another ex-Victorian worth having onside is RENASCENSE. He showed early toe in his 1st start in TAS – over 1880m mind you. I think if he can lob a spot on speed, he’s another hard fit horse who will run a strong mile and be in the finish. Rated Price – $8.00

Back SECRETLY AWESOME for 1 unit WIN at $4.60+

Back RENASCENSE for 0.5 units WIN at $9.00+
