Our Devonport Horse Racing Tips for the weekend.

Power Magnum (Devonport Race 3 No. 4)

POWER MAGNUM is the horse I’ve identified here, and keen to have a crack. He’s resuming off almost a year off, which means we might get a bit of love in the price. He’ll likely land in behind the speed and prove to good late. I’m hardly Nostradamus finding him, coming from races behind Turk Warrior, Miss Tuppence, Queenborough Flyer and Summer Fire. If he’s going well as his trials suggest looks a put in, take out job. Rated Price – $2.40

Back POWER MAGNUM for 2 units WIN at $2.80+

How to pick a winner

Each Way

Trojan Storm (Devonport Race 5 No. 5):

Tough race here with a bunch of apprentices trying to get positions up on speed this looks like a messy speed map. As a result, I’ve landed on one that should settle at the rear and get last crack at them.

I liked the way TROJAN STORM worked through the line last start here over this trip. He was held up around the 300m mark and still came home in splits better than the class. He drops in grade here and gets a nice strong rider in Jason Maskiell aboard and hoping he can throw him over the line late.  I think he could be the best each-way bet on the card. Rated Price – $12.00

Back TROJAN STORM for 0.5 units WIN and PLACE at $16.00/4.00+

Best Lay

Hero Of Romani (Devonport Race 7 No. 3):

Not keen at all on this race, host of chances. Good luck to connections, and those playing!

At the current prices I’d be inclined to be against HERO OF ROMANI. He goes up in grade here and even though the win was visually impressive last start, he didn’t beat much and did so in average time. This is harder and I think will be a notable drifter in the market. Rated Price $6.00

Lay HERO OF ROMANI for 1 unit WIN at < $5.00

Race Analysis

R1 1350m Maiden

This could be the worst race in Australia. My god.

I’ve got it largely a race in two between ANGELIC AMOUR and MACS RELAXED.

MACS RELAXED has the notable “upside” of the field, with only two career starts, but looks a very limited animal from what we’ve seen at the racetrack. He had a 1350m trial at the track a couple weeks back, but looked to be in slow motion. Rated Price – $4.80

My lean from a betting point of view is ANGELIC AMOUR. He gets a super jockey upgrade here with Jason Maskiell jumping on, and looks the most likely leader from barrier 1. Off a freshen up he could pinch this from the front. Big big price bet early. Rated Price – $6.00

Back ANGELIC AMOUR for 0.5 units WIN at $7.00+

R2 1350m Class 1

Another pretty average race, a lot of these are squibs. Brunton has 3 of the 8 runners, but at Devonport? Weird race.

OLYMPIC HONOUR finally draws a gate and comes here fresh. If he can find the top with ease, he could pinch this up front. If we get a big price I’d be inclined to back him, if that doesn’t eventuate I’ll be passing on the race. Rated Price – $7.00

No bet at current prices.

R3 1150m Maiden

Nice little race here, and I’m keen to bet.

R4 1150m BM76

Race of the day! Keen to take on the Wolf!

I reckon he’s just a horse this prep and copped a gut buster last start due to a poor steer! Keen to be against.

LE CADEAU can be a tough horse to catch but gets a good race 1st up off the back of two nice trials (behind Alpine Wolf). He gets in with 56.5kg after the claim and looks to be right in this, with plenty of speed from the GEE GEE runners. I’d usually be against a 4kg claimer from back in the field, but Lauryn Bingley is quite an experienced track rider and is strong enough to get his home from the back. Rated Price – $4.20

VIVILICI is the other horse of interest, and will be the one worth backing at current prices. She returned super last start, in the same race ALPINE WOLF tackled, but put in what I thought was a much better performance. Her trials coming in were great and these can be tied in with LA CADEAU. I have her marked favourite, and will be betting accordingly. Rated Price – $3.00

Back VIVILICI for 1 unit WIN at $3.50+

R6 1009m Class 1

Pretty keen to bet again here. This one is one for the trial perves with the two main hopes BOLD INSTINCT and EYES FOR ASH resuming off some work on-track leading in.

Really liked the work by BOLD INSTINCT in his trial. He went out a maiden winner and comes back here in what looks a very winnable race. Engaging Chloe Wells looks a sign of intent from the stable and in turn brings him down to 53.5kg, which is another positive. I think he could lead or sit outside EYES FOR ASH and prove too speedy over 1000m. Rated Price – $1.80

EYES FOR ASH is 1st up for Scott Brunton (via Tony Romeo) and looks some hope. The trial wasn’t anything special but he’ll put himself on speed and be thereabouts. These Ex-VIC horses have a very good record in TAS 1st up, and the fact Scott Brunton has bothered to trial him at Devonport is intriguing. Rated Price – $3.60

Back BOLD INSTINCT for 1.5 units at $2.00+

Back EYES OF ASH for 0.5 units at $4.00+

R8 1650m BM 68

Was half keen on MISS DELIA in this race, but she’s come up a fraction short for me to get involved. Thought her last start effort was full of merit and could go well with Siggy Carr jumping on. If she gets out a fraction in the market I’ll be playing her small. Rated Price – $5.50

Back MISS DELIA for 0.5 units WIN at $6.00+

Our Murray Bridge Horse Racing Tips for Wednesday's meeting. Key Comments The track is currently rated Soft 5 and the rail is +3 metres the entire circuit including the 1800m and 2000m chutes. Best Bet Startide (Murray Bridge Race 7 No. 4) Startide is first-up from a 21 week spell and was a close runner-up in an Open Trial at Gawler. She has good first-up form and has raced in stronger fields than this. Strong chance. $3.30

Our Wyong Tips for Wednesday's meeting. Key Comments The rail is in 3 metres. Expecting the best bet to kick off the day with a win on the back of a very strong second placing on debut. Best Bet Just Party (Wyong Race 1 No. 1) Just Party was left a sitting duck after doing too much early work but there was plenty of merit in the debut effort. Drawn kinder here, strips fitter and Tim Clark remains in the saddle. This

Our Doomben Horse Racing Tips for the 20th of March. The rail is in 6 metres and the track is in the soft range. A small 7 race card with the best bet in the first. Best Bet Bella Tivaci (Doomben Race 1 No. 2) Knocking on the door for a win and has been heavily tried to score here. Barrier 1 will afford every chance, Jones rides and this race is lacking depth. $2.10
