Our Devonport Horse Racing Tips for the weekend.

Quicken Up (Devonport Race 2 No. 12)

Very keen on one here. I’m really hoping QUICKEN UP is simly too good for these. She’s an ex-QLDer from the Kendrick yard making her TAS debut, who has raced in behind Nettuno who lines up in the San Domenico Stakes in Sydney. Her two trials have been sufficient and the horse looks to be sound, and it’s worth noting she’s trained on track by Rowan Hamer. Hoping she can find a spot in the lead or OSL from the wide barrier and run away from them, can’t really make a case for anything beating her. BULLISH. Rated Price – $2.00

How to pick a winner

Vetlanda (Devonport Race 10 No. 3):

Super keen here, and pretty simple really.

Think VETLANDA is almost a living breathing. Loved the trial going into this, worth noting the 4kg apprentice rode it in the trial and takes the ride here. She meets a lot of these runners well in at 56.5kg and should be leading from barrier to winning post. Hoping Lauryn Bingley waves goodbye to the field at the 200m. Rated Price – $2.00.

Best Lay

Emily (Devonport Race 8 No. 10):

Hot little race this one, and I’m keen to take a few positions. Plenty of speed in this one with BANDINELLI, WW, GG LANETT and EMILY all going forward.

BANDINELLI is a nice horse and has come up a big price, but rumour has it it’s had some health problems – which is unfortunate, so I’d rather watch him go round before backing. Rated Price $8.00

EMILY is another key chance here, but she’s come up a poison price. I have her trapped wide with Codi on board. Codi has a bad habit of being caught 3WNC or worse from wide draws and I think she’ll be indecisive again here. If EMILY is caught wide 1st up here, she could run unplaced – keen to LAY! Rated Price $6.50

SUMMER FIRE looks the most likely winner, she looks to get a cosy run behind the speed from a middle draw, and has trialled nicely ahead of resuming. She should be too good here if she gets every possible. Rated Price $3.30

Back SUMMER FIRE for 1 unit WIN at $3.80+

Lay EMILY for 1 unit WIN and PLACE at < $4.20/2.00

Race Analysis

R1 1150m Maiden

Good little maiden to start. Firmly against TENNESSEE BEACH and PROPHET EYES who are well found in early markets. They’re both on speed runners but they find very little late under pressure. Inclined to back MISS VIVACE. I actually have her favourite here. Really liked her effort 2nd up behind Cornelian Bay (who will jump fave up in grade, in R4). She was even to the line but I think this is a much easier task and gets in at 52.5kg with EBB taking the ride. With an inside draw I expect her to sit just in behind the leaders and prove strong late. Rated Price – $3.40

Back MISS VIVACE for 0.5 unit WIN at $4.00+

R3 1350m Maiden

Tricky little race with a host of chances. I’ve landed on MULTISANTI for hopefully the last time. Was curious as to why they scratched from a similar race last week, but hoping it was only because of the wet ground. Think the blinkers going on and Troy Baker going on from the wide draw is a sign of intent and if he can find the front, this horse will prove hard to catch – worth something at the price. Rated Price – $4.40

R4 1350m Class 1

Going into the meeting I thought CORNELIAN BAY would be a lay on principle (thought they’d go up deep in the red). However, they’ve gone up $4.60 which changes things. I think he’s the obvious runner on the up – breaking the clock on debut. At the early price he’s actually worth backing – looks a complete and utter. Rated Price $2.00

Back CORNELIAN BAY for 1.5 units WIN at $2.50+

Pass – Hopefully counting our cash from Races 1-4.

SIR SIMON is awfully short, but I can’t really lay him. He could win by 5L or run last – that sort of horse.

Was keen to be with BOOM DOT COM (Rated Price – $5.50) or RING OF HONOUR (Rated Price – $7.00) but no edge at the current prices.
