Best bet – Race 3 #1 Tavi Time
Comes out of a Canterbury night meeting where trainer Kris Lees trained three winners. He identified Tavi Time as the horse from the trio that he expects to be the one with the most upside. His summation was not surprising given the toughness of Tavi Time’s win on that occasion. He obviously has a clear will to win, given he’s now won three from four and only tasted defeat on debut on what was a heavy track. Last start he had all the favours on the fence behind the leader, but had to bullock his way into the clear upon straightening. He was eased up on the line yet was still going away from his rivals after the line. It suggests he’ll be suited out to further and he gets that here out to 1800m. Despite having a wide gate here, there’s not much pace so Mallyon should be able to position him up on the speed.
Next best – Race 6 #6 Point Counterpoint
He a as held up at an important stage rounding the turn after finding the fence here last start. He finished hard and the run indicated he has no issues with the Eagle Farm surface. He has won seven from 27 and gets Brooke Stower back aboard who has a good association with him, winning two from three on his back. He’s drawn well here again and should find a good spot. The favourite is obviously the one to beat but this guy is a terrific price.
Best each way – Race 3 #7 Syrian Star
In the same race as my best bet, but she’s a great each way price and shouldn’t miss the top three. This is a significant rise in distance but it looks the right move given the way she’s finishing off her races. She’s ran well in all three runs this prep, despite having awkward barriers on two occasions. She has drawn awkward again here but there’s not a lot of speed so she should have time to slot in somewhere.
