Best Bet | Race 6 #12 Quantico
This bloke is into this race up to his ears as he begins what is likely to be a promising campaign. The son of I Am Invincible was nothing short of impressive last preparation, winning three on the trot against some decent horses. His second last run in the preparation, he was too good for horses like Vulpine and Hot Danish winner Electric Girl before heading to Melbourne and making a mess of them up the straight on Melbourne Cup Day. Two trials in preparation for this have been magnificent and he gets to start his campaign with a low weight and a nice draw. Tommy Berry will hopefully have him within 2 lengths on the bend before he unleashes him towards the line.

Next best | Race 3 #6 Casino Kid
Normally I don’t like betting in these staying races, but this bloke has really impressed me. The son of Casino Prince has shown a nice turn-of-foot over his last two runs at Rosehill, saluting by almost half a length two back before missing by half a length last start over the 2000m behind the promising Crystal Pegasus. He sticks to the same grade and goes up to 2400m, which he gives me every indication he will manage. He will have no weight to carry with Reece Jones aboard once again and he will most likely be taken back and smoking the pipe for most of the race. Expect Reece to get him into the race on the bend before releasing his turn-of-foot over the final 250m. So long as he is within range, his acceleration should be too much for them.

Best each-way | Race 9 #5 Mirra Vision
This girl is slightly over the odds here and is worth an each-way play. Her first-up record is impressive, she handles the 1200m like a pro and she will handle any surface thrown at her. First-up last preparation she was too good for them in a BM78 at Rosehill over the 1200m. When they decided to give her a freshen-up before the Group 3 Tibbie Stakes at Newcastle, we really saw what she was capable of, going down on the post to Madam Legend before winning the Angst over the mile next start. The barrier is a slight concern but some of her better runs have been when she has had the awkward draw and I am sure Sam Clipperton will know where to put her, having ridden her three times for two wins. I think she is a wild card in this race.

Race 1 #2 Metallicity
I think we are going to see something pretty special in the opening race, especially between Metallicity and Miss Faberge. I really like Metallicity as he showed in his trials, he isn’t a colt to be messed with. He has run some nice time in his trials without having to do a lot and I am very keen to see what he can do on race day, cause as we all know, often race day is a different kettle of fish. Barring bad luck, I think he wins this.

Race 5 #2 Yiyi
This bloke was heavily backed last start before being over-run late by the stablemate at double-figure odds. We see it a lot with the Waller stable, but I don’t think lightning will strike twice here. He meets his stablemate Wairere Falls 1.5kg better off for that one-length defeat and going up to the mile suits. I don’t think James McDonald is going to let what happened to him last start happen again, and he will show why he best jockey riding in Australia by reversing the finish.
