Cool Lad (Newcastle Race 7 No. 6)
The son of Al Maher hasn’t had a bad preparation thus far with a forgivable run first-up before heading to Brisbane and running a solid placing. They then sent him to a midway race where he was less than a length off the winner in fourth after doing some work early on in the race. He drops back dramatically in grade and has drawn a nice barrier, which should ensure a kind run throughout. The Matthew Smith/Blake Spriggs combination also has a 23% strike rate, with a 31.4% profit on turnover, which should again prove fruitful.

Czar (Newcastle Race 5 No.6)
This bloke was quite good first up at Hawkesbury when he ran some nice sectionals in third behind Walkintalkin in a messy race. I don’t mind the step up to 1300m and the Snowden stable generally goes well second-up, so with the nice draw, I expect Tommy Berry to lob midfield before unleashing him up the centre of the track.

The track is Good and the shiny new running rail is in the true position. The feature is the $30,000 Murray Reid Memorial Pingrup Cup over 1660m (race 5) where last year's winner Oddoneout returns to defend his title.
