Best Bets

Our Randwick Horse Racing Tips for the weekend. Feature events are the Chipping Norton Stakes (Race 7) and the Surround Stakes (Race 8).

Ellsberg (Randwick Race 5 No.2)

The son of Spill The Beans is looking to keep his unbeaten record first-up alive as he tackles the 1300m. He is coming back after a solid last preparation where he won twice, winning the Group 3 Festival Stakes and placings in the Silver Eagle and the Villiers Stakes. He comes into this race on the back of one solid 1050m trial and the Ryan/Alexiou stable generally get their horses fighting fit first-up. He is drawn wide which shouldn’t be an issue as there is no pace in this race and he should be able to get across to lead or box seat with ease and with the best pace judging rider Tim Clark aboard, he will no doubt be able to control this race from start to finish. With the majority of the field first-up and Ellsberg being able to handle any ground, he is going to go very close to keeping his perfect first-up record.

Suggested Bet: 1u @ $4.40

Next Best

Kiku (Randwick Race 6 No.7) & Icebath (Randwick Race 6 No.8)

This race is my best each way and the next best combined in the one race. Kiku is coming off two brilliant runs in Queensland, finishing second by half a length first-up in The Buffering on a heavy track before placing in the $1 million fillies and mares race at the Gold Coast behind Snapdancer. She has since had a freshen-up and a tick-over trial which should have her in prime condition for this run and I love that Nash Rawiller is going to ride her at 55kg. She rates well, loves the sting out of the ground, and is going to have a fitness edge over half the field. She is over the odds.

Icebath was my black booker from the Apollo Stakes where she was immaculate. There are no prizes for finding her in this race as she is so well placed and with James McDonald opting to ride her, she is going to give a massive sight. The only query if any is the draw and she may be giving some a start.

Suggested Bet: 0.4 unit @ $10.00 & 1.8 units @ $2.35

Other Bets

Colette (Randwick Race 7 No. 9)

She was really good in defeat last start behind rival Think It Over and I think she is a good chance to overturn the result here. She was just too far off him when the pace went on and she couldn’t peg back the margin. Up to the 1600m and the wet track brings her right up to him and the ideal draw is going to give her every chance. Tim Clark retains which gives me plenty of confidence and providing she sticks close, she is going to be hard to hold out late.

Suggested Bet: 1u @ $4.20

Best Lay

Quantico (Randwick Race 5 No.9)

First-up on a wet track isn’t ideal, especially with his pattern. Happy to bet around him.

Our Pinjarra Park Horse Racing Tips for Thursday's meeting. Key Comments There are 7 races and the rail is +4 metres the entire circuit. Best Bet Another Strike (Pinjarra Park Race 6 No. 2) He was a 1.3 length winner over 140m at Ascot last start after narrowly missing to be runner-up over 1300m at Pinjarra the start before. The way he ran on at the end suggests the rise in trip will suit. Leading hope. $2.25
