Nyika (Newcastle Race 4 No. 12)
I like this Medaglia D’oro gelding to break his maiden status. First up at Kembla Grange he was held up in the straight before finishing off nicely when 1.8 lengths back in fifth behind Airliner. He then went to a midweek meeting at Canterbury where he ran really well when finishing 1.7 lengths back in third behind Ain’t He Grand and Ignacio. He managed to beat the rest of the field by 2.5 lengths, which is terrific form leading into this one. Now despite entering this Class 1 as a maiden, he gets a 2.5kg weight drop from last start and is drawn nicely in barrier two. Distance shouldn’t pose an issue for him and I think this is a highly winnable race for him.

Rahni Factor (Newcastle Race 8 No.9)
This girl has placed twice this preparation in the same grade, running second to Mr. Polar first up at Gosford before coming here to Newcastle and again running a solid second to Diamond Diesel, who has since placed in a Midway in town. Last start here at Newcastle she was held up in the straight and not fully tested but she was still able to run 2.3 lengths off the winner in fifth. That was behind the talented Narito and third placing Damaged has since won well at Hawkesbury. She has drawn beautifully here and if Schofield can keep her out of trouble, she is a terrific each way bet to end the day.
