Polly Grey (Rosehill Race 8 No.2)

Gone a bit left field in the feature of the day. In a lot of these races, weight gets overplayed and the quality still prevails carrying top weight or near the top weight. This girl was quite good first-up behind Le Lude in the Aspiration Quality, where Le Lude controlled and dominated from the front. She is going to love the sting out of the track and being on the quick back-up, I am expecting a bold run. I love the booking of Brenton Avdulla here because I think he will put her in the prime position from the draw, and she will be unleashed in the straight. She is massively over the odds.

Wairere Falls (Rosehill Race 4 No.10)

Look I’ll be honest, Ellsberg looks the one to beat and had he not been $1.80, he probably would have been a bet as well. Wairere Falls was good last start in a funny run race but it’s the start prior at this track and distance I want to concentrate on. He sat in prime position on the day and ran top two in fastest 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m sectionals for the entire meeting. He performs well enough at Rosehill, loves the distance and doesn’t mind the sting. He will get a nice spot from the draw and if Ellsberg gets pestered in front by Blue Soldier, our bloke will be sitting and waiting. He has no weight and a decent jockey booked, he should not be the price he is.

Roots (Rosehill Race 6 No.12) / Fangirl (Rosehill Race 6 No.11)

I don’t see the winner coming outside of these two unless the Waterhouse/Bott pair get luxury up front, then it’s race on. Roots is no stranger to stronger grades and no stranger to her stablemate Fangirl when it comes to race day. They met in the Reginald Allen last preparation when Fangirl got the better of her on the day having the map advantage and better run in transit, winning by just over half a length. Both of these girls have good jockey bookings, drawn well and will relish the distance. Fangirl has the experience on the wet over Roots, but Roots did perform well on the soft going against Fangirl in the run we discussed earlier. I really expect these two to be fighting out the finish.

Rule of Law (Rosehill Race 5 No.2)

Taking on a horse who has won five straight isn’t always the smartest move, but I don’t think he gets the favour he has gotten previously and there is more depth here.
