Mr Ranger (Balaklava Race 6 No. 1)
Topweight Mr Ranger has 61kg to carry but still looks a good bet. He kept chasing solidly behind an all the way winner for 1.9 lengths 2nd over 1200m at Balaklava on 2 March which was his first race on the track, then took over at the turn and kept finding for a 1.6 length win over 1350m at Strathalbyn on 23 March. Barend Vorster sticks with him and will be hard to beat.

Rustydustysunshine (Balaklava Race 5 No. 8)
This seven-year-old grey mare trained by Ron Campbell has 13 wins from her 69 starts including two wins at this track and distance. At the end of last campaign she was held up until the 150m and was strong through the line for 2.2 length 2nd over 1000m at Murray Bridge on 5 December after being unlucky. She resumed for a 0.2 length win over 1000m at Murray Bridge on 27 March. Has the speed to overcome drawing the widest barrier and looks a nice each-way bet.

Lomax (Balaklava Race 2 No. 3)
This five-year-old Host gelding trained by Jess Giles is the early favourite in this BM 64 Handicap over 1400m. At the end of last campaign he was held up and went to the line untested for 2.6 lengths 9th over 1600m at Morphettville on 16 October then was spelled for 22 weeks. He resumed for 0.3 length 2nd over 1200m at Strathalbyn on 23 March. Likely to settle back in the field and has never won second-up. Others offer better value
