Our Oakbank Racing Tips for Wednesday’s meeting.

Mavette  (Oakbank Race 1 No. 3)
John Hickmott & Carina Riggs train this five-year-old Al Maher gelding who has four wins and six places from 38 starts. He led at the top of the straight and boxed on steadily for 2.8 lengths 5th over 1800m at Murray Bridge on 5 December, then chased strongly and hit the line hard in the final 175m for 0.3 length 2nd over 2000m at Bordertown on 12 December. Is rarely far away and looks the testing material.

How to pick a winner

Each Way

Richter (Oakbank Race 7 No. 5):
This four-year-old Skilled gelding trained by Peter Hardacre at Mount Gambier has one start for one win. He debuted over 1000m at Mindarie Halidon on 19 September and won by 1.9 lengths. Two runners from that race have won since. He resumes here after 13 weeks and was so dominant in that race that he looks well worth an each-way bet here.

Best Lay

Mighty Mabel (Oakbank Race 8 No. 6):
This seven-year-old Pellizotti mare trained by Darryl Dodson is the early favourite in this BM 52 handicap over 1100m. She fought hard but was no match the final 100m and finished 2.9 lengths 5th in a BM 54 over 1100m at Strathalbyn on 28 November, then was never really clear and was not fully tested when 2 lengths 5th in a BM 54 over 1100m at Bordertown on 12 December. Has drawn the inside barrier but other runners offer better value.
