This three-year-old Sizzling gelding trained by Robert Heathcote has two places from three starts. He fought on for 1.9 lengths 3rd over 1000m at Sunshine Coast on 25 July, then chased hard but found the leader too good when 2 lengths 2nd over 1100m at Gold Coast on 7 August. Gets a 3kg claim here and is ready to go one better this time.

Rebel Salute (Doomben Race 7 No. 5):
This five-year-old Deep Field gelding trained by Bryan & Daniel Guy has had three wins and six places from 11 starts. At the end of last campaign he tried hard for 1.8 lengths 2nd over 1400m at Sunshine Coast on 28 March. When resuming after a spell of 18 weeks he came from well back to just miss for 0.1 length 2nd over 1200m at Ipswich on 5 August. Likely to race on the speed and is a solid each-way chance.

Chompers (Doomben Race 8 No. 3):
This four-year-old Foxwedge gelding trained by Tony Gollan has one win and two places from five starts and is the early favourite in this Class 1 handicap over 1350m. At the end of last campaign he finished 4.2 lengths 6th over 1600m at Pakenham on 4 February, then resumed from a 25 week spell to win a maiden handicap by 0.5 lengths over 1200m at Gold Coast on 31 July. Has drawn well, but this is tougher than his last start and I’m prepared to risk him here.

Key Comments A big 10 race card takes place. The rail is in 3 metres. The track usually suits those who can sustain a long run to the line. That will suit the best bet who loves racing here and comes up later in the day. Best Bet Flame Tree Star (Grafton Race 1 No. 1) Has a booming turn of foot and while Swanston doesn't have the easiest pattern to catch, this track does suit and that shows with the 9 placings
