Our Doomben Horse Racing Tips for the New Year’s Day meeting. The feature race is the Group 3 Vo Rogue 3YO Plate (race 7).

Wisdom Of Water (Doomben Race 4 No. 1)
Annabel Neasham can get back-to-back wins with this four-year-old Headwater stallion who has four wins and four places from 19 starts. He chased hard for 2.7 lengths 5th over 1100m at Rosehill on 4 December, then was too good for the rest with a 0.3 length win in the Magic Millions 3&4YO over 1200m at Wyong on 15 December. From barrier 3 Tommy Berry should be able to put him in the box seat and he should win.

Tambo’s Mate (Doomben Race 8 No. 4):
This six -year-old Mossman gelding trained by Tony Gollan has 11 wins and six places from 28 starts. He kept chasing for 2.3 lengths 3rd in the Listed Starlight Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill on a heavy track on 27 November, then led throughout for a 0.2 length win in the Listed Tattersall’s Recognition Stakes over 1350m on 4 December. Since then he won a trial on 21 December and looks a nice each-way chance.

Vendidit (Doomben Race 2 No. 2):
This five-year-old Hinchinbrook gelding trained by Brian & Daniel Guy is the early favourite in this BM 72 handicap over 2000m. He over-raced early then battled on for 1.7 lengths 5th over 1800m at Gold Coast on 4 December, then finished 2.9 lengths 5th over 1700m at Ipswich on 15 December. Has drawn nicely but hasn’t won at this track before and I’m prepared to risk him.

The feature is the $50,00 Tasmanian St Leger over 2400m (race 7). As a general rule, runners who land in the front half of the field are suited at this track, with an advantage to those who find the inside lanes in the straight. Our Newcastle tips for Thursday's meeting. Key Comments The best bet looks well placed first up and can give this a shake with some credible form lines. The track has been playing very fair lately. Best Bet Left Field (Newcastle Race 6 No. 4) Wasn't far away all last prep and looks nicely weighted with the claim. Has form around Lalaguna last prep and looks nicely placed against these and should be hard to beat.  $2.90 l
