Ballistic Boy (Doomben Race 6 No. 2)
This five-year-old Smart Missile gelding trained by Chris Anderson has seven wins and six places from 21 starts. At the end of last campaign he was eased late and vetted with slow post-race recovery in the $1M Magic Million Trophy Quality Handicap over 2400m at Gold Coast on 16 January, then spelled for 32 weeks. On resuming he did best late to win by a narrow margin over 1350m at Doomben on 28 August. Goes well second-up and loves this track. Should win.

Fortified (Doomben Race 5 No. 2):
This four -year-old Ocean Park gelding trained by Chris Waller has three wins and a place from eight starts. He came from well back for 7.8 lengths 8th in the Group 1 Queensland Derby over 2400m at Eagle Farm on 29 May, then had a 12 week let-up. On resuming he was always well back and battled on for 4.1 lengths 8th over 1400m at Gold Coast on 27 August. Will like the softer track and ran 2nd when last second-up. Looks a good each-way chance.

Best Lay
Racecourse Road (Doomben Race 8 No. 4):
This six-year-old Show a Heart gelding trained by Kelly Schweida is the early favourite in this Open Quality Handicap over 1110m. At the end of last campaign he fought on for 0.4 length 2nd over 1200m at Gold Coast on 8 May, then resumed after 15 weeks for 5.1 lengths 7th in the Goldmarket over 1200m at Gold Coast on 27 August. That was a disappointing run and I’m prepared to risk him here.
