Our Randwick-Kensington Horse Racing Tips for this Wednesday.

POSTPONED – DUE TO STATE OF TRACK

Samoot | (Randwick-Kensington Race 5 No.5)

This girl was nothing but impressive in her Australian debut at a track that isn’t known for winning backmarkers. She was a touch slow out, but that didn’t matter as they were always going to go back on her, and she made her move in the straight off an average tempo, which makes it even more impressive. Not only that, but her form over in England has been on firmer surfaces, so taking it all into account, her 3 length win eased down was immaculate. The sectionals back up the eye, running the quickest final 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m of the race and sixth quickest, ninth quickest, fifteenth quickest and fifth quickest over those sectionals for the entire meeting.

She gets a surface that is likely to improve, up to 1400m with a likely average tempo again, she could be hard to stop with even luck.

Ocean Shores (Randwick-Kensington Race 6 No.10)

This beautifully bred son of Fastnet Rock is having a tremendous second preparation and he will be looking to go a bit better than his last start third.

After being awkward out last start, they had no option but to settle at the rear of the field which ended up being his un-doing, going down by a length in third after running the quickest closing sectionals of the race. The start prior he was tardy out again but was saved by a rails hugging ride and a slightly firmer surface. I like the step up in grade and a slight drop back in distance as he did look to struggle a touch at the end of 1900m, though that might have been the heavier going. He will get an improving track come Wednesday and the longer straight is going to help his cause. Hopefully he doesn’t come out awkwardly and James McDonald can use his ideal barrier.

Other Bets

Saint of Katowice (Randwick-Kensington Race 4 No.5) & Momack (Randwick-Kensington Race 4 No.4)

I don’t mind either of these runners in a smallish field that is wide-open.

Saint of Katowice was okay last start but I think Canterbury bought him a bit undone mixed with the fact I think he is better when chasing. Two starts before that run he came from near last first-up to finish one length back in fifth, even though he was interfered with and held up in the straight. He then went to Caulfield where he was stuck three-wide the trip and faded to a 4.25 length seventh. He is drawn okay and he will have a couple in front of him to chase and with the booking of James McDonald whilst back in grade, it signals that this could be his chance.

Momack is an old favourite of mine when he was with Angela Davies. Since his change of stable to Blake Ryan, he has had just the one start, where he ran a career high rating whilst running second to Character, who ran third in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes on the weekend. He genuinely goes well second-up and he loves a soft track, which he will get here. He has drawn the widest in barrier 8 and will likely go forward to either sit with or just off Gulf of Saros depending on what Bowman chooses to do. I have thrown him in here as he is a winning chance, and is definitely over the odds.

Best Lay

Stalking (Randwick-Kensington Race 3 No.1)

I don’t like the setup for her here. Comes into this second-up off a drama filled placing at a bigger track. She is back to her own age but has to carry 2.5kg more than last start and has to give weight to some of her more fancied runners from a wide draw.
