This bloke was gelded last second-up last preparation when he was with the Chris Waller stable where he was a touch awkward out and he kept up well enough after almost two months off the track. He then went to Newcastle on a soft track where he was slow out by four lengths and managed to finish the race off well enough into fourth, three lengths back. He has since changed stables to John O’Shea and has had the one trial which I thought was good and O’Shea has ripped the crossover noseband and tongue tie off and put on some pre-race earmuffs for this resumption. I think the softer track suits him here first-up being drawn out may not be an issue as they trialled him on the pace, so I want to assume they will be a bit more positive if they can here. James McDonald knows him well and I think he can run a big race.

He put his opposition away with ease last start despite sitting wide throughout. The son of Exceed and Excel sat three deep on the pace before streaking away for a three-length win at this track and distance. It did help him that the pace was slow but regardless, it was an impressive win. He is drawn wide again but there is a lot of pace in this race, so I expect James McDonald to take him forward from the draw and slot in off the leaders around fourth or fifth, stalking them until they hit the straight. I don’t think the weight is going to worry him and the soft going is going to suit.

I think this bloke needs further and dryer. He drops back 100m and despite dropping back in grade, they face a pretty wet Warwick Farm and he will likely go back from his draw. This is wide-open and the favourite I believe, will appreciate the run and be better further into the preparation.
