Our Sha Tin Horse Racing Tips for Sunday’s meeting.

Looking Great (Sha Tin Race 1 No.7)

This bloke has been impressive over his last two despite not winning. Two back he settled at the rear due to a wide draw and ran some nice time home to finish just over 2.5 lengths back in third behind Sight Spirit. He had drawn wide again last start and despite the long back straight, he had to do a bit of work early to get into a nice position, as they opted to head forward. He was entitled to faulter late, but he kept fighting to finish less than half a length in second to rival Charity Go. The pace that day didn’t suit him and where he ended up in the run, so it was a surprise to many to see the fight late. He meets Charity Go 1.5kg better off at the weights here and he is drawn much better than his previous two, so expect him to stride forward with the lack of speed in the race. It’s his first go at 2000m which shouldn’t pose any issues being out of Holy Roman Emperor. He is worth a crack.

Suggested bet:  1.3 units @ $3.30

Best Each Way

Cordyceps Two (Sha Tin Race 6 No.12)

Going a little bit wider in this race as they seem quite an even bunch. Our bloke was very good last start, stepping up from 1200m to 1600m for the first time, and pulling out his maiden victory. He beat home rival Leading Fortune by a head, but it was the way he did it that impressed me, he fought on like a little bulldog. They have drawn wide here but that is fine as there isn’t any speed and I expect them to adopt the same tactics and head forward. Due to Leading Fortune winning since they met last, we actually meet him 1.5kg better off for beating him last time. I am expecting a similar run to last start and he will give us a show.

Suggested bet:  0.4 unit @ $12.00

Other Bets

Sky Field (Sha Tin Race 3 No.3) & Wellington (Sha Tin Race 3 No.4)

When I initially did the form for this race, I had it narrowed down to the top four in Waikuku, Ka Ying Star, Sky Field, and Wellington. Waikuku was clearly on top, but the price isn’t entertaining. Sky Field was next after two consistent runs in Group 1’s over the 1200m. His runs were very good rating wise which I believe could have been higher had he had clear runs in those races. He has one trial since which was good, and he is no stranger to the 1400m. Hopefully, he doesn’t give them too much of a start. Wellington was the other I didn’t mind in this race, and I have been on him the past two races in which he had no luck whatsoever. His figures have been good, his trial since his last run was excellent and 1400m is new ground at this sort of level, though his class can get him through. He wasn’t going around without something on at the price.

Suggested bet:  1.2 units @ $3.50 & 0.6 unit @ $7.00

Five Elements (Sha Tin Race 7 No.2) & Super Fortune (Sha Tin Race 7 No.13)

This is a very thin Class 3, and I will be surprised if one of these two don’t salute. Five Elements has been running moderately in his last couple against much better opposition, whilst also doing a bit wrong. Since his last start, he has had a nice trial and freshen up, as they look to produce the form he did first-up in September, where he was a close second behind Packing Victory, which is his career-best run to date. Zac Purton jumps aboard which is always a good sign and Frankie Lor has added the visors for the first time, which in the last 12 months he has done just 14 times for 5 wins at a strike rate of 35.7%.

Super Fortune is the other I like and is more the backup in case Five Elements doesn’t show up. The son of Zoustar is coming off a solid run behind Flying Ace at this track and distance last start after leading pretty much the entire race. He is drawn well to sit on the pace again and maybe he might box seat with the addition of Karis Teetan aboard. This is his third go at 1200m and he has improved at each start over that distance to date, so I expect today to be no different.

Suggested bet:  1 unit @ $4.60 & 0.8u @ $5.50

Captain Win (Sha Tin Race 9 No.1) & Ezra(Sha Tin Race 9 No.11)

Captain Win has been running some fantastic races without winning over his last three, and hopefully, that changes today. Last start was the closest as he looked all but home, only to be beaten on the line by rival Crossford, who he will meet 1.5kg better off today. I expect Purton to try for a similar run as last start and the addition of blinkers I believe is going to help. If he shows any improvement from his last start effort, he will win this.

Ezra has been thrown in because I think he is over the odds. I am putting a line through last start as he was wide without cover and faded to finish a distant tenth in his first go at Class 3 since his debut. The start prior albeit in Class 4, he won nicely, beating home Darci Joy (who has since won back-to-back races) and Leading Fortune (who has since placed twice and won since). He has trialled up adequately since his last start effort, has no weight but he is drawn a touch awkwardly. His ratings have him running a nice race with even luck, and at the price, he is worth the gamble.
