Champions Mile Race History

The mile swapped places on the program with the 2000-metre Mackinnon Stakes in 2016, and both races now sit on the carnival's closing Saturday, where the Mackinnon is run as the VRC Champions Stakes. Champions Day carries three Group 1 races: the Champions Sprint, Champions Mile and Champions Stakes.

Recent winners include Yulong Prince (2020), Superstorm (2021), Alligator Blood (2022), Pride Of Jenni (2023) and Mr Brightside (2024). In 2025 Ceolwulf won on a wet, windy day for trainer Joseph Pride and jockey Chad Schofield, ahead of Pericles and Stefi Magnetica.
