Best bet | Race 6 #1 Giannis

One of the more interesting runners on the Doomben program. His recent form reads awful, but he did contest group one races at the end of last prep. He also won a listed race first-up less than a year ago. The trials in Queensland to prepare for this first-up assignment have been positive enough and the stable will be keen to find out where he sits after the lacklustre end to his last campaign. He will get back in the run, but should be storming home at the end and showing his class edge.

Next best | Race 4 #7 Land Of Valens

Comes off two nice Sydney trials and I like that training duo Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou have engaged the services of top Queensland hoop James Orman. This galloper goes well fresh having never missed a place from three first-up tries. It’ll be interesting to see if they elect to lead or take a sit from the good gate. The gear change of a crossover noseband and tongue tie suggests they may attempt to have him more relaxed out of the gates. Barrier three gives Orman options and he should be right in the finish.

Best each way | Race 8 #3 Desert Lord

Didn’t have a lot of luck last start at Grafton but was strong through the line. He was well in the market on that occasion and despite being beaten more than four lengths behind Ranges, it was a hidden run with a view to the future. He appreciates a good tempo and he should get that with Greyworm and Tavison up front. Expect him to sit in the second half of the field before powering home our wide late.
