Our Canterbury Horse Racing Tips for this Wednesday.

Whatafox | (Canterbury Race 3 No.2)

Despite looking a bit plain last start, I thought he had genuine excuses when he hit the lead way too early and the fact he showed signs of a slower recovery rate post-race. He won’t mind the tight-turning Canterbury track and the stable would have no doubt prepared the horse to handle the Sydney way of going. His draw is ideal to sit just off the leaders and he should have no problems if James McDonald takes him to the lead as they enter the home straight or just after as he won’t have a long way to go. An interesting stat that boasts well for us here is that in the past 12 months has ridden for the stable 30 times and won half of them at an average price of $3.20, which is an immaculate record.

Main Stage | (Canterbury Race 6 No.8) / Hameron | (Canterbury Race 6 No.9)

Happy to give both of these geldings a crack who are at different parts of the preparations and experience. Main Stage has been in terrific form running second in three of his last four and winning the other. Two starts ago he was no match to the promising Diamil before running second to Military Mission at this track and distance, beating home the rest of the field by five lengths. That race itself has produced two next start winners in Military Mission and Reggiewood. He has had a nice three weeks off, drawn ideally in a race with average pace and Rachel King is back on, which is ideal as she knows the horse and is in terrific form. He is going to be hard to run down. Hameron looks like a nice progressive horse who is going to love going up to this distance. He was immaculate on debut before falling at the hands of Detonator Jack over the mile, but he hit the line well suggesting he wants further. He gets that extra distance here and a middle draw suits in a race with average pace and James McDonald should be able to get him third or fourth in the run behind Main Stage. He looks the main danger providing he can handle the tight-turning track.

Achira | (Canterbury Race 4 No.1)

I love this set-up for a filly who is primed to make a decent impact. She was brilliant two back winning the Midway on Slipper day before having a crack at 2000m in fillies grade but was unable to measure up. She comes back majorly in grade from Group 3 to a Benchmark 64 for fillies and mares and she will have to carry the 60kg with the claim of Reece Jones, though she has earnt it. Back to 1550m is ideal and she has shown that the ground is no issue in this sort of grade. She is drawn ideally to be able to stalk Vittoriosa before making a move on the bend, providing they stay within range. She will be in the right position on straightening and will handle the going better than most of her rivals, the only query will be the weight. Worth a shot at the price.

Caboteur | (Canterbury Race 5 No.6)

I truly think this guy is over the odds. I thought his effort was very brave last start at Hawkesbury where he was first-up over the 1500m. He ran the race wide without cover but still managed to plug away to finish sixth and still run the 15th quickest final 400m of the meeting. His runs and figures last preparation was good over similar distances and it looks like a similar pattern also, where his first-up run was just okay but really came to life second-up. He has been to Canterbury before and has raced well on tight-turning tracks and his form on wet surfaces is good enough. I love the draw and the addition of Sam Clipperton is brilliant because he has been riding well. I expect them to lead or box seat throughout and be really strong over the concluding stages.

This’llbetheone | (Canterbury Race 5 No.2)

He is on his second preparation and has never run on a track like Canterbury or a wet surface. He will have to try and work through this race from a poor barrier whilst carrying 60kg. Too many variables to be taking the price on offer.
