Best Bet | Race 7 #2 Wapiti

After two credible close-up runs behind Ballistic Boy, Wapiti looks ready to win. From gate three, jockey Taylor Marshall will have options and can sit closer to the speed like he did last start at Doomben. I know his winning strike rate is nothing flash, but this looks a much easier assignment without Ballistic Boy in the race.

I like this bloke because I think he’s the most talented horse currently contesting these sprint races in Queensland. The stable has obviously set him for the race and the last-start win at Doomben confirmed he would be competitive in absolutely any Queensland sprint race they placed him in. There’s no doubt the gate (11) is a little sticky, but it’ll be interesting to see the tactics employed by others capable of going forward. Jockey Steph Thornton is a great judge of pace and she can assess the best course of action once the gates open.

Best each way | Race 3 #6 Trengganu

Unbeaten at his home track and ready to win fifth-up. I also like that the stable has taken the tongue tie off in an effort to get him back to winning ways. The favourite (Lyrical Girl) looks hard to beat but we get a 3kg weight swing thanks to the claim for in-form apprentice Leah Kilner. From the good gate he should sit midfield off what should be a hot pace.
